women and men never be truly equal?
I'm tired of seeing all these sexist ads! In women-food advertising serving their husband while he is sitting back and watching the game in all-female SINGLE-commercial appliance cleaning women advertising anti-aging " cream while its ok for men to watch women wrinkled half-naked around a man (as seen in many advertisements of beer) and the list goes on and on … Does it ever stop!?!?
I think you're smart to notice it. The only way we can stop them is a. stop buying products advertised as this and b. manufacturers say their ads are sexist why we are not buying. These ads are a problem because they perpetuate gender stereotypes and "normalize" the subordination of women. Children (and adults) are high on the forage and to absorb and act on these unhealthy messages in how they conduct their lives. It is a patriarchal brainwashing and a mild form, but insidious social control. NOW, Media Watch, and other feminist organizations have organized campaigns to get a lot people who write in about the same ad. These can be very effective. It's a way to make ourselves heard, and they would appreciate energy and awareness.
